Demonstrative Food Literacy Cookery Session

Thu, Aug 27, 2026, 05:30 PM Unity Lounge & Bar Room, Sporting Club Thamesmead · Greenwich Family Special 18 physically present

Good food habits can start before pregnancy and continue through pregnancy, early parenthood and family life. This practical, hands-on cookery session brings parents-to-be, new parents and people thinking about starting a family together around the kitchen to learn how to prepare healthier, affordable meals that can realistically be repeated at home. The session will be delivered by Food for Purpose FFP CIC, our specialist delivery partner in food literacy, and facilitated by Jesse Ashiegbu. Participants will cook together, learn practical ways of preparing nutritious meals on a realistic household budget, ask questions, share knowledge and leave with something they can actually use at home. This is not a lecture and it is not about telling families what they are doing wrong. It is about learning together, cooking together and building confidence around healthier meal preparation in a welcoming environment. The aim is simple: to support healthier beginnings for parents and children by making good nutrition practical, affordable and easier to apply in everyday family life. £30 Grocery Voucher Every attending family or couple will receive one £30 grocery voucher. One £30 grocery voucher per attending family or couple — not per individual attendee. The purpose of the voucher is to help participants purchase the groceries and ingredients needed to recreate and practise the healthy meals and cooking approaches they have learned during the session at home. This support is intended to help turn learning into action by reducing the immediate cost barrier to practising healthier meal preparation after the session. Childcare can be a barrier. If you genuinely want to attend but childcare arrangements may prevent or make it difficult for you to take part, please tell us during registration. Where resources allow, we may be able to support you with childcare provision so that you can attend. Doors open from 5:00 PM.
